Quality of life for single Service Members deals primarily with those things that the single service member can directly or indirectly influence to enhance their morale, living environment or personal growth and development. Some of the issues addressed by BOSS councils include dining facilities, education, fitness centers, Service Members' quarters, medical and dental care, commissary and Army Air Force Exchange Service. Quality of life issues identified or raised during BOSS meetings are directed to the appropriate command or staff agency for resolution and resolved at the lowest level.

Better Opportunities for Single Service Members (BOSS) is a dynamic program for single & unaccompanied service members to help enhance their quality of life, contribute to their community through service activities, & assist in the planning & execution of their own recreation & leisure events.

Recreation and leisure activities are planned by the BOSS council or in conjunction with other MWR activities. Events planned by BOSS council — based on input from single Service Members — range from outdoor activities, such as whitewater rafting and snow tubing to more interest-based events, such as Comicon and and Renaissance Fairs.  Trips are open to all Service Members and civilian guests (18+), and single Service Members normally get a discount on each trip.

BOSS councils often elect to participate in community programs or projects that make a difference in the lives of others, the community and ultimately, themselves. BOSS members have volunteered to take part in the Easter Dash, JBLM clean-up events, Santa’s Castle, Designated Driver Program and many more.  All Service Members are invited to volunteer with us and earn your Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM), worth 10 promotion points!
